Solar Shield - Installation, Care, and Handling Instructions
Keep material dry before and during installation
- Do not remove the protective Poly Protech, (plastic or foam) until installation
- Touch up end cuts
- Do not allow the substrate to set in standing water
Field application
- Ensure the wood surface condition is sound, this can be done with any standard adhesion tape test.
- Clean and condition substrate. Remove any algae, fungus, mildew, etc. with an appropriate surface cleaners and conditioners.
- Solar Shield is not recommended over wood previously coated with an opaque stain.
- Do not apply coating if temperature is below 50 degrees F., above 90 degrees F., or rain is expected in the next 24 hrs
- Stir the coating before and during application.
- Two coats of Solar Shield MUST be applied for proper performance.
- The spread rate per coat should be approximately 300 square ft per gallon
- Apply even coats with a brush following the direction of the grain , remove excess coating, leaving an even, wet sheen on the surface.
- Apply the first coat to all sides and ends, including the back, preferably before installation, and allow to dry (approximately 4 hours)
- The second coat may be applied to exposed surfaces only.
- Touch up any surface damage incurred during installation.
- Allow the coating to dry 24 hours for light traffic, 72 hours for complete cure.
Clean up
- Cleanup can be easily accomplished with soap and water
- Properly dispose of remaining coatings in accordance with the local ordinances
